Visit Herefordshire Campaign

Bringing Families To A Rural Destination

Tasked with promoting family visits to Herefordshire over the October half-term, we hit a bump in the road… many of the obvious attractions were closed. Turning to our list of free things to do, ranging from rambling castle ruins to wild hills, an idea started to take shape.

The Brief

  • Branding & Design

We developed the concept of getting to know the county’s ‘dark side’ and created four mini road-trips which uncovered centuries of bloody deeds, ghastly ghosts and fearsome folklore.

The aim was to bring history to life for 6 to 12 year olds and make the most of of free attractions across the county.

Each family adventure was designed to take visitors to fantastic places to play, imagine, create and learn.

We explored a wide range of curriculum topics, from the plague to prehistoric Britain, and aded nature craft ideas, such as woodland crowns and scavenger hunts, to help families engage with their surroundings.

The campaign was timed to coincide with Halloween – the perfect time to explore ruined castles and spooky caves!

Murderously Good Design & Content

To draw in families we developed a campaign identity and commissioned intriguing photography which we moodboarded to capture the right feel.

We then wrote and designed a downloadable guide to the road trips and created an engaging web landing page.

It’s All In The Results

We promoted the guide via Visit Herefordshire’s website and e-news as well as through paid social and online advertising, which both led to significant downloads.

In addition to attracting the interest of visitors, Hideous Histories was also created to catch the eye of the media. It held plenty of appeal, enabling Visit Herefordshire’s PR agency to secure coverage ranging from The Times to The Telegraph as well as bringing a high profile family influencer to the county to test out the trails and share her experiences on social.
